I like New Year's as much as the next person
I understand it's a signal for change
but to think that everyone will change is a load of shit
those resolutions I make every year
I doubt I've ever kept any one of them
just because I realize how useless they really are
and it only takes me a couple weeks into the new year

2010 though
will be a year of plans
because I have one whole year
to plan and decide
and then prepare
for Milan, Italy

whether in 2011 or 2012
I'm going
that's the only promise I'll make to myself this year
to not let any worries block me from going
because this is one opportunity I will never again receive
I will work past the financial barriers
and the culture barriers
and the language barriers

I don't remember what time I was aiming for
but it was definitely not 4:57 am.
I hate finals week.
I hate Microsoft Word more, though.

I'm so lucky :)

I don't think I stop to think often enough
about how blessed I am
and the gifts I've received from God.

I have
a caring, loving family
the best friend a girl could ask for: her sister
the most amazing friend[s] - at work & at school
an extraordinary boyfriend - perfect in every way

it is only because of them that I am able to face the world
every morning I get up
and am able to sleep soundly in my bed at night
knowing they'll be there if I need them.

and I?
I hope they feel the same way towards me -
that no matter what, I will be there
ready to face anything
to take on anything for them
because that is my promise.

no matter how far we may be
no physical distance can truly separate us.

ONE OH SEVEN

I think the thing I hate most about society
is the amount of worth we put on a name.

Take the ugliest thing you can find
tack on a designer brand
and people will go nuts over it
no matter how much it costs.

All those huge department stores that have sales all the time?
Well all the ugly 'designer' label things that were too ugly to sell full price
they knock of 50%, 60%
and suddenly the whole area scrambles to pick one up
just for the brand's name.

But that's not the worst part.
Sure, those things were cheaper than retail price.
But the original price was still relatively expensive.
We're talking anywhere from $300 - $1000.

What happens then, when you take something that is 'designer'
and only retails for around $50 - $70
and then stick it on the sale rack?

I'll show you what happens.

I absolutely abhor these abominations people buy in a frenzy.

things on my wish list this year

but all I need is a new camera

as much as I love mine
and all the places we've been together
the things we've seen and documented
it's dying on me.

the battery takes 3+ hours to charge
and lasts close to 20 minutes for pictures
10 on video
before it completely shuts off and hibernates

it requires a dock to plug into anything
its impossible to charge through my laptop
and only through outlets
but needs a separate cord
so I constantly have to have 2 cords + dock
in order for it to work at all

its missing a chunk out of the bottom corner
from god knows when
and when I open the latch to take out the battery
it comes flying out along with the SD card
-.-
I've only had it for 3 years
but maybe that's a long life for a camera

with my art photography class next quarter
I don't think I'll be able to work through it
with this camera

maybe it was because I never named it...
